Tambourines are an easy instrument that children can play, and allowing children to decorate their own tambourine during Hanukkah will be a big hit. This is a great craft activity, and allows the children to have something to take homes from the party.

You will need to purchase unfinished wooden tambourines for the Hanukkah activity. These can be found at local arts and crafts store. The only disadvantage of buying the tambourines from a local store is that you have to purchase each tambourine separately. This can become very expensive if you are expecting a lot of children. If you want to save money, you can check out online merchants. Many merchants will sell unfinished wooden tambourines in bulk at a discount price. Make sure to purchase the tambourines that have a closed top, and are not completely open. You will also need to purchase acrylic paints and paintbrushes at an arts and crafts store.

Before the children begin to make their Hanukkah tambourines make sure to line the activity table with a plastic tablecloth or newspaper. This will protect the table from any paint spills. Have the children paint their own Hanukkah scene on their tambourines. Encourage them to paint their favorite things about Hanukkah on the tambourines. Allow them to fully dry before playing with them. If you want the finished project to have a smooth shiny top you can purchase spray gloss. You can find this gloss with the other spray can paints. It may take 2 coats for a very shiny top. The gloss will be very sticky so allow it to fully dry before the children touch them.

Allow the children to play their tambourines during music time, or allow them to come up with their own Hanukkah song that they can provide the music to. The children will enjoy this activity, and it allows them a chance to be creative.
